I imagine you'd be able to achieve at least some of this with the template custom fields or manual fields

Having the ability to edit a template for an individual learner and not have it edit the master template is highly desirable for us as well. For example when sending withdrawal confirmation emails, its great to have a generic template with all the normal withdrawal info, but there are so many specific details that we need to add each time, such as exactly which subjects the students withdrawing from, if they've been charged an enrolment fee, if they withdrew before or after census, if they've applied for a remission of fees etc. We don't want to create 100 different withdrawal templates for all of the variations of the withdrawal circumstances, just to accidentally edit the master template every time we need to make a minor change for a single student.

Agree 100%. Currently our team is limited by how we can use templates. This would be a very desirable feature for us as well and offer a lot of benefit!

Our biggest challenge is that you either have FULL access or NO access to templates with nothing in between. There are numerous examples of where it is desirable to have a set template but wish to let staff amend the template to meet the their respective circumstances.  No better example than COVID notifications!

We have a standard template set up so that if a state goes into shut down with 12 hours notice we can quickly communicate to all affected students giving them information on the immediate shutdown of campus, dates that this is in effect, confirming if and how they will run their classes virtually in the shutdown period, as well as a message of encouragement - "We've done this 2 times before - we got this!".

The messaging for the bulk of the communication to students will always remain generic, we just want general managers of each state (without template editing permissions) to be able to tailor the communication in selected areas on that template to go to selected cohorts without affecting the Master Template.
