Assessment Task
An Assessment Task (or simply a Task) can be an Assessment or a Lesson that is delivered to a Learner. It will usually consist of multiple Items. Each course enrolment may contain one or more Tasks. Examples include an Online Quiz or an Observation Assessment.
Assessment Base Type
Assessment Base Types (or simply Base Types) determine the format that an Assessment takes. They are the most high-level categorisation of Assessments. The five available Assessment Base Types are:
- Quiz
- Lesson
- Marking Criteria
- Observation
- RPL Evidence
Assessment Type
Assessment Types are configuration options that sit on top of Assessment Base Types, and allow you to configure variations of each Base Type for different Task delivery options.
You can have multiple Assessment Types for each Base Type. For example, you may have one Assessment Type that adds a timed element to your Quizzes, and another where Learners do not have a timer.
Assessment
An Assessment is a category of Tasks. It refers specifically to Assessment Tasks where an outcome is achieved (or not achieved) by a Learner. An Assessment will be any of the following Base Types:
- Quiz
- Marking Criteria
- Observation
- RPL Evidence
Lesson
Whilst not technically an Assessment, a Lesson is an Assessment Base Type. Lessons refer specifically to Tasks where there is no outcome - Lessons are purely used to deliver Learning Content. Auto-marked Items can be included in Lessons (e.g. Multiple Choice questions), however the results are purely formative and are not recorded. They are often used in place of SCORM packages.
Lessons can also be configured so that Learners may reattempt them as often as they like.
Attempt
Each time a Learner undertakes a Task is known as an Attempt. Depending on your configuration, Learners can have one or many Attempts for each Task.
Item
Items are Questions or Content that you configure to deliver your online Learning & Assessments. Items can be authored within Tasks, and saved to the Library, or they can be authored directly in the Library, and later inserted into Tasks. Items in the Library can be considered the 'parent' object, and are reusable across many Tasks.
Item Type
Item Types determine the format the Item takes and whether a Learner or Assessor must 'action' the Item. Examples include:
Multiple Choice question
Observation Item
Content
For more information, please see the Item Types section.
Question
Questions are a category of Items that require some form of action from the Learner or an Assessor to progress. For example, responding to a Quiz question.
Content
Content is the other category of Items, and is used to create a separate 'step' in a Task, but does not require any action from a Learner or Assessor. Content Items are used solely to deliver information to a Learner.
