Video Library
AnsweredHi guys,
I was wondering if it would be possible to upload videos to aXcelerate that students can then watch on the platform rather than downloading the file itself from the Resource Library?
I have students at EQ schools where YouTube and other public video sites are blocked, so I'm just trying to find a way around this. Cloud Assess had this feature, so I could upload the videos to a folder in their Library, and the students could watch the videos on their Learner Portal.
Thanks for your help,
Kate

Hi Kate,
Have you heard confirmation that schools will be blocking YouTube entirely? As far as we understand, only creating YouTube accounts will be banned; users under 16 should still be able to view videos without an account.
We don't have an ETA on a video storage option at this stage, but we'll investigate further in light of these changes. As an interim solution there are platforms like Vimeo which offer video hosting + embeddable players at reasonable prices.
We understand that some schools may still voluntarily choose to ban the site – we suggest talking to the schools you provide training for, and exploring alternatives like Vimeo in the meantime.

Hi Kate
Thanks for your feedback. We're well underway in the development process for a new Media Library, that will initially replace the Images Library. I've included a design mock below:

We subsequently intend to extend the Media Library to also allow Video hosting & playback. Unfortunately, due to security and hosting complexities, until that project is complete, we're unable to offer Video hosting services.
Do you have any further information regarding the video blocking that is in place? Some of our other users find success when using Vimeo.

Oh amazing! That looks awesome. What's the ETA?
Unfortunatley, Education Queensland schools also can't use Vimeo - they really only have access to Clickview and QLearn, which come at a cost (and I probably wouldn't even get approved). Pretty antiquated and annoying.
Thanks for your speedy reply,

Hi Brendan,
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, EQ students don't have access to Vimeo either, so we wouldn't be able to use this as an option as only half of our cohort would be able to access the videos.
It seems as though most private schools will also block YouTube to support the new changes, so students will only be able to access the content when they're at home, not at school.
If you could please keep me updated on the media library, I'd really appreciate it.
Have a great day,
Kate
