Assessment Logbooks / forms - allow student and trainer input

Hi Team, 
We use logbooks as supplementary assessment evidence in the learning plan. Student record as they complete certain tasks, saving as they go and submitting once finished the course (10 days). 
We would like the option for the trainer to also update the logbook - however, they currently need to create a manual submission which locks the student out. 

Essentially have the short answer update and the progress be seen from the marking screen, and the trainer having the ability to edit and save. (without submission).
