Allow templates to pull 'preferred name' or 'given name' if nothing is in the preferred name field

It would be good if a field could be added to templates which will select trainee preferred name or if nothing is entered in the preferred name then it defaults to Given name

We had an irate student who was upset we had used his Given name on an email but I tested changing the field to [trainee preferred name] but if there is nothing entered in the preferred name field it left it blank.

Also wondering if the ability to use the quick search bar will bring back the option to search by preferred name as often students will provide this rather than given names.

  Thanks for the suggestion. We recently made a change to the [Trainee Preferred Name] template field to revert to using the Learner's given name if no preferred name has been set. This should allow you to use this field in your templates to accommodate those who have requested a preferred name to be used while still displaying the correct information for those who go by their given name.

  Definitely support this suggestion, or alternatively auto populate the Preferred Name field with the Given Name.

  Definitely would like to see given names inserted in templates if nothing is in the preferred name field. We have a lot of students who use preferred names due to personal situations, and while it is possible to copy given to preferred for everyone who doesn't have a preferred this seems like unnecessary duplication.

  The last SMS we used put the student's given name in templates if nothing was in the preferred field, surely this isn't that hard to implement?

  A resounding YES to this suggestion.   We have many students who have a Preferred name, but can't simply use within general templates.  I think a long time in the past it was suggested by aX that if we wanted to use Preferred Name we should re-enter Given Name in Preferred Name filed - this is not a realistic option from a human resource / time perspective.

  Can this please be considered? Surely it wouldn't be hard to implement?
