Role-Based Visibility Controls for Assessment Content
I would like to suggest adding role-based visibility controls to individual assessment content blocks, instructions, sections and checklist items.
When creating assessment content, authors could select who is permitted to see each item:
• Learner only
• Assessor only
• Learner and assessor
• Administrator only
This would be particularly helpful when an assessment contains different types of information, such as:
• Student instructions
• Assessor instructions and marking guidance
• Model answers and benchmark responses
• Observation criteria
• Reasonable adjustment guidance
• Internal compliance or validation notes
• Evidence requirements
• Administration instructions
Currently, assessment developers may need to place this information in separate areas, separate documents or use workarounds to prevent assessor-only information from appearing to learners. It can also be difficult to confirm whether particular instructions or observation criteria will appear in the Learner Portal.
A visibility setting could be added to the properties of each content block, question, section or observation criterion. The authoring screen could display a small label or icon showing its visibility, such as “Learner,” “Assessor” or “Internal.”
It would also be helpful to include buttons allowing assessment developers to preview the complete assessment according to each role:
• Preview as Learner
• Preview as Assessor
• Preview as Administrator
This would allow one assessment to contain all necessary information while ensuring that each user only sees content relevant to their role.
The feature would reduce duplicated documents, prevent model answers or internal instructions from being accidentally shown to learners, improve the assessment-authoring workflow and support stronger privacy and compliance controls.
Thank you for considering this improvement.
