Invoice number manual input

Is it possible to look at a separate field in the workshop screen where we can enter our own invoice number? We are not able to use the invoicing system due to company requirements however having the invoice against the workshop and being able to pull it into reports would be useful. At the moment we enter it into the finance notes section but are not then able to generate a report and show the invoice number.
