Improvements to client portal
The Client Portal has potential to be a great resource for employers to be provided with relevant data, BUT the current limitations make it's value almost worthless.
It seems more effort has been put into enrolments than reporting.
There is nothing available to show how an employee is progressing through a Learning Plan. This would be so much better than the Unit of Competency data currently available, as it shows far more detail on how a particular student is progressing.
I tried to create a report as a fall back option to show this information, but the system won't allow the report to be shared with a Client Role.
The same applies to many of the reports available.
It would also be a welcome addition to allow certain Templates to be available as well.

Hi Chris and Helen – we're currently in the process of collecting feedback to improve our Client Portal, so feel free to share specifics of what you'd like to see improved in this comment thread. Especially any high-priority pain points that prevent you from effectively using the Client Portal.
Chris, what type of report are you trying to share?

Hi Brendan
For our business, the key outcomes for employers is the ability to track learners progress through courses. The reason for this is that a majority of our courses are self paced, so it is not easy to identify progress.
As we use Learning Plans for our courses, and often use clustering or have multiple assessments for a single unit spread across several modules, the display of progress being limited to showing which units have been completed is not a great indication of progress.
The key enhancements I'd like to see in the Client Portal are:
1. A view of the Learning Plan, exactly as it appears in the Learner Portal for each learners enrolment
2. The ability to provide details of when learners have logged on to the portal. I have been producing the access log report and providing this to employers, but I can't share it with a user who has a client role.
3. Similarly, in the absence of being able show employers the Learning Plan progress, I created a report that at least allows them to see the status of each learning plan module - but this can't be shared either. I then thought I could share with them the status of assessments attached to a course - and again the system wouldn't allow me to select a client role for this report.
4. I'd like to see more details about each enrolment, such as the enrolment date, commencement date, expected completion date and the percentage of the course completed. We have created a Student Progress report using a template and we send that to students once a month. I can provide this to you so you can see the type of information we would like to see available in the Client Portal for employers.
5. It would be great to see a summary progress page for an organisation to see a snapshot of all enrolments for all learners, with the ability to click on each enrolment to delve deeper into the course and see the information detailed above.
6. I like to have the ability for Clients to obtain access to emails sent to them or to regenerate certain templates, such as recreate an invoice. Anything that reduces the administration burden and makes the portal more of a self help platform would be very welcome.
7. It would be great if we could switch off the enrol function for some organisations and remove the button from the portal. I wouldn't want this to be a system wide setting as some employers may require this feature and others may not, so it would be great if it could be made available to select organisations.
8. A refresh of the UI would be valuable too. It looks a bit dated and is somewhat clunky to use, especially when compared with the Learner Portal, which has a much fresher and intuitive look and feel.

Hey Chris,
A potential workaround (that works well for RTOs I am working with) is to create a user role called "Employer" that is based on the Trainer Role view. Do not give this role too many permissions - pretty much to view enrolments, view online assessments, ... . Then simply make them the class owner. This way they will only have access to their classes (in their trainer portal Courses -> My classes).
If you give them permissions to generate templates, they will have access to all Trainer Approved ones.
It might not achieve 100% of what you need, but I think it would get you pretty close :)
Cheers,

Hey Brendan,
I also agree that the client portal needs a refresh to make it workable for our clients. I agree with Chris that the emphasis is on enrolment , however the majority of our clients want student progression details, and Chris's points would address the majority of what we would like to happen in the portal.
The client portal is not that user friendly, and it really seems pointed towards fee for service clients, not clients that utilisie traineeships or government funding.
Additionally, a student attendance log that employers could see would be amazing, we are constantly producing attendance logs for our clients.
Thanks,
Cam
