Items
Items are the Questions or learning Content found within a Task. When completing Tasks, Learners move through Items that are used in that Task in a sequential manner.
There are many different Item Types, and the Item Type determines the functionality of the Item as well as any restrictions that are placed on it.
An example of Type-specific functionality is that the question supports Fill in the Blank responses, or whether a question is Auto-marked or not.
An example of a restriction is that Observation Items cannot be used in an Online Quiz.
Authoring Items in the Library
Items that exist in the Library can be individually Authored, Previewed, Mapped and Published. Once published, Items can be reused across multiple Tasks. If you update the original Item, the changes you make will flow through to all Tasks using that Item.
To begin Authoring an Item:
- Click New Item
- Choose an Item Type
- Author the Item
- Apply any relevant settings to the Item (for example, Plagiarism detection settings)
- (If applicable) Apply an existing Marking Scale or create and apply a new one
- (Recommended) Enter a descriptive Title
- (Optional) Apply existing Tags or create and apply a new one using the Tags panel on the left
- Click the Mapping tab to map individual Items to Units of Competency or Performance Criteria
- Use the Preview tab to see what the Item will look like for a Learner
- Publish the Item
The Item can now be added to a Question Bank or Assessment Task.
Tip: Please see the Item Authoring article for further information regarding the Item Title.
Warning: Updates to Items also affect any Assessment Attempts that use that Item.
Mapping
Items can be individually mapped to the Elements and Performance Criteria of Units of Competency.
To Map an Item:
- Navigate to the Mapping tab
- Select a Qualification
- Select a Unit of Competency
- Select the Performance Elements that you would like to map to the Item
Any changes you make are automatically saved.
Preview
Items can be individually previewed as you’re authoring. The Preview reflects what will appear to Learners when they receive this Item as part of their Assessment.
To Preview an Item, navigate to the Preview tab.
Usage
🚧 This feature will be released in a future update to Items. 🚧
History
The History tab allows you to view the changes that have been made to an Item over time. The date, the user, and the action are all recorded in order to maintain a detailed audit log.
Authoring Items in a Task
Items that are Authored within an Assessment Task can be optionally saved to the Library for reuse. Alternatively, they can exist purely in the Task itself, but won’t be usable within a Question Bank.
