Business Roles are the positions that members of your organisation hold while participating in Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Business Roles have individual goals and competencies configured specifically to them, based on the professional abilities that are required in that role. Individuals are assigned to one or more Business Roles, which will inform the Competencies that the individual needs to achieve as part of their Continuing Professional Development.

- Click on the Business Role that needs Competencies configured
- Select the Competencies tab
- If the Competency already exists, you can search for it using the search bar and the filter parameters.
- If the Competency does not already exist in the system, select Add New and enter the relevant details
Configuring Responsibilities for a Business Role
Responsibilities are an abstraction of the Competencies of a particular Business Role. They are a roll-up of one or more competencies for a role, and are used as a mechanism for Professionals to identify what they do in their day-to-day role, which then inherit the competencies that the Responsibilities are mapped to.
They can also be considered examples of how one might demonstrate one or more competencies when performing their job. For example, where the competency might be complex & technical, responsibilities abstract them into a simpler manner.
When creating their Development Plan, Professionals will first select the Responsibilities required of their Role. Following this, they will have the opportunity to review the Competencies that have been selected via inheritance from the Responsibilities that they previously selected.
- Select a Business Role that needs CPD configured
- Select the Responsibilities tab
- Select New
- Select a Label, choose whether the Responsibility is a Core Responsibility and add relevant Competencies
- Select Create
Tip: You can think of Responsibilities as what you might put on a Position Description when describing that role's responsibilities.
Configuring CPD Periods and Rules for a Business Role
Once all the configuration for the Business Role is complete, you may enable it for Continuing Professional Development. Individual rules for Training periods and Training rules can be configured for Roles within the system. For more information, please see the General Configuration article.
